Terms and Conditions – Karen Wilhelm VO, Voices By Karen
My Mission…
Is to be your “GoTo” to person for all your voice over needs. I want to be that very first call you make and if I can’t help you with your project, I may be able to recommend someone who can. My goal is to make your project priority one and your job as easy as possible when it comes to hiring voice over talent.
Before We Begin…
Let’s have a chat about what your needs are; What type of project is this? How many words/pages for eLearning, Narration etc. How you will be using the voice over such as; broadcast (usage time length and area of distribution (Local, Regional, National, Global) , non-broadcast, Paid advertising, web usage or internal Company websites, YouTube, Spotify etc. What is your timeframe for completion? This will allow me to give you an accurate quote.
Those Pesky Fees…
Well, I’m not the lowest, but not the highest. The fees will depend on a few factors. The type of project, common or technical language, your script length, usage of the recording, such as internal usage within a company, on a client’s website, their YouTube channel, pre-roll advertising for the web, events, radio and television advertising, etc. and for how long. If you have several projects coming up, we can talk a “bulk price” also. File splits, directed sessions, dubbing and other requests will normally require additional costs. But we can discuss all that when we have our initial chat. If you’re not used to working with voiceover fees, a great resource to check out is the GVAA Rate Guide. This will give us a starting point for our discussion. I do have a minimum studio/session fee of $250.00 USD.
Before I begin recording…
I’ll ask you to review the quote and agree in writing (usually via email) and this will act as our contract. I won’t share anything you don’t want me to, but I do like to use social media or post the final completed projects on my website as I believe in the benefits of mutual promotion where appropriate. That said, I’m happy to sign an NDA if you need me to, so now is a good time to ask.
You’ll need to give me the final, approved version of your script. If you need to direct the session online, we’ll agree on a mutually convenient time (this MAY incur an additional charge). Most of my voiceover work is done on my own, in my home studio. If I’m recording solo, you’ll need to give me some pointers on how you want the voiceover to sound. We might agree that I record a couple of paragraphs for your approval at this point – just to make sure we’re on the same page. If there are non-English words, acronyms, technical language or jargon, now’s the time to point these out so your recording doesn’t get delayed.
The Recording…
I work only with professional-grade audio equipment, in my acoustically treated, soundproof studio.
Unless you ask for something different (which you’re welcome to do), I’ll record and edit the voiceover track to my standard specifications. This will give you a broadcast quality, ready to go audio file for your engineer/production team. FYI-RAW (unedited) audio is always quicker and preferred and may result in reduced cost to you if you prefer to go this route!
What Next?
Most of the time, that’s it! But sometimes I know there are things that won’t be quite right, so…
If I’ve made a mistake, or you want a word or two changed, I will fix it free of charge and in a timely manner. Hopefully, the test read and the discussion we had earlier, will mean this doesn’t happen. But if it does, don’t worry, we’ll make it right.
If you’ve made a mistake in the script, or if a portion of the script needs to be changed for whatever reason, I may charge a small fee to cover the time it takes to make the changes. Also, if you reviewed a sample of the project, approved it and now want a different type of read, there may be additional fees charged to re-record the project.
Remember what I said about my mission to be your “goto” voice over? Just keep in mind that I always want you to be happy when you work with me. That way you’ll know I’m tried and true, trust me, tell your friends, and hopefully keep coming back, again and again.
